No, I think if they actually did get it working, the only way of noticing without opening it up would be to put in a downloaded game (On a Dual-Layer disk).

The only difference (that I know and hope of) is that it can just play downloaded stuff.

If you don't think it'll be noticed give xbox a call and they'll send someone to pick it up for free - mine was nearly 3 yrs old and they still fixed it for freee because they extended the warrenty if they were built before a certain date. For me it was teh motherboard that went apparently.

Well that was worryingly easy.

Here's how it went:

Myself: Hi, my 360's got 3 red lights, I still have the receipt...

HMV Man: (Quick glance at the receipt) Okay. (Walks off with 360)

HMV Man: Okay, here's your new Xbox.

Myself: (Trying not to look too schocked) Uhm... Thanks very much!

It was only the actual unit that got replaced (as in none of the wires), but that was to be expected.

Plus, it has a lot of free trial arcade games and demos (which it didn't have before), so I'm pretty happy.
