|
|
Turned on my 360 to the horror of discovering the 3 red lights a couple days ago.
Found the error code out to be 0020 , and there is nearly no info on it anywhere (and I've tried all the towell methods, etc).
It's about 10 motnhs old, which would be great, except my friend and I sort've fiddled with the 360 a bit (way before the red lights).
Any advice would be a appreciated (e.g. "360 Repair for Dummies") or does anyone know if Microsoft will replace anyway for £85 (standard price after warranty is over I hear).
Thanks in advance guys,
Ryan. |

Top tip, don't mod it unless it's past the warranty
Lol, I would happily get the spares off eBay, but I don't know where the problem is .
I really ought to be asleep now lol |

Its fixable mate...
the towel tracks are a very bad idea as they can damage the system even futher.
Google "X-Clamp" fix. I have done this to a couple of X-boxs and had them back up and working fine. If you need any more advice feel free to ask...
But I would recommend doing a bit of research into it first to see if you feel your up to it.
Good luck fella! |

I've heard about the X-Clamp fix...
Was scared to break it more though.
Will delve into it more though, thanks |

| Apparently it's pretty easy to fix just follow the guides and videos. |

Hmm, anybody know where HMV would stand with replacements?
I.e. if I bought it under 12 months ago, would they be likely to fix it?
I figured it's better to chance a replacement from HMV, as they are a lot less likely to notice I've fiddled with it (they rarely seem to check, and it's some barely noticeable scratches on the back where the shell has been opened)...
And if they do notice that it's been fiddled with, I can play my "outraged customer" card.
Basically, I make a fuss about being sold something that's "obviously" been pre-owned (It's happened before with my TV) and then suddenly remember that there was a gamerprofile on there when I first started it up called "Xbox 360" or "John Smith" or something, but I just thought that was normal.
(Of course, there was never a gamerprofile but it'll reinforce the belief that they've wrongly sold me a second hand console).
If it all looks like it's failing, I could always threaten a court case.
I'll update if this works |

I think if you kick up a fuss like that then you have a good chance of getting a replacement.
I have heard of people sending them back to Microsoft with broken warranty seals and still getting a repair.... something that's also worth baring in mind!
Good luck. |

| It depends on what you've done to your console...if you've chipped/modded it or changed the firmware than you 100% won't get a replacement (or you will, and later on they'll see what you've done with it and ask for the new one back, it happened to my mate!). If it isn't something noticable then you may get one though |

Well, the firmware may have been changed slightly to allow for... playing games I might not have been able to play were it left the same (if you get my meaning).
But surely the only way they can tell is by opening up the 360 (because the red lights mean they couldn't do much else on there anyway) ?
The only noticeable damage would be the slight scratches at the rear of the console, which I'm hoping they won't look too closely at |

| I think it'll be fine then!! As long as the firmware change hasn't also changed the boot up menu etc? |
